ABOUT THE EXHIBIT SPACES

The Gary Public Library houses a professional art gallery in the Gary Public Library and Cultural Center. The gallery is open to the public during regular library hours.

All arrangements related to the gallery - appointments, information, and scheduling of exhibits are conducted through the library's Art & Graphic Design Specialist.

The Gary Public Library serves the community as an agent for the exchange of cultural experiences within the community. Exhibit areas throughout the system are maintained by the library's Public Relations Services which also coordinates, develops, and designs displays and exhibitions. These may include items provided by individuals or groups. The library facilities exist to reflect the interests of the community, to create new experiences, and to introduce new concepts from other areas.

GALLERY SCHEDULES

Gallery exhibits are scheduled for 5-6 week periods and include work by new and professional artists, local and regional artists, as well as educational exhibits.

ON EXHIBIT

To find out what is currently on exhibit at the library, watch for information in local and regional media-newspapers, radio, community, business newsletters and the library's website.

RECEPTIONS

The public is invited and encouraged to attend gallery receptions when scheduled. Receptions provide the public with an opportunity to meet the artist(s) and discuss their exhibit on a one-on-one basis. A gallery brochure is available at each exhibit and is designed to introduce the patron to the artist and his work.

PATRON INQUIRES

Patrons interested in the artwork on exhibit may request an "Artist Referral Card" available at the circulation desk. The patron fills out the card which is then forwarded to the exhibitor who makes the contact. Patrons may use this card to contact the artist for various reasons including purchasing or commissioning art work, information on resources for art supplies, or even information on the artist's next exhibit.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN EXHIBITING OR DISPLAYING YOUR WORK

Call the library's  Art & Graphic Design Specialist to request and fill out an application for exhibiting. The Art & Graphic Design Specialist will then contact you to set up an appointment. You will be asked to bring samples of your work, photographs, slides or the actual work itself. You will also have the opportunity to view our gallery and discuss the policies and procedures for exhibiting at the Gary Public Library.
